Where to stay in Marrakech: Riad Si Said

Travelling through Morocco last September, the stay in Marrakech was in a very special place. I had the opportunity to visit the Angsana Riads Collection chain, a group of six luxury riads (Riads are old houses of Moroccan families that in order to be called a riad  must have a fountain in the courtyard or pool) concentrated in the area of the old medina. My stay was in the beautiful and pleasant Riad Si Said, near the Palais Bahia, one of the most visited spots of Marrakech. The nice and airy central courtyard has an atmosphere of tranquility, surrounded by a beautiful garden, where there the excellent Si Said restaurant is located. Also, the Riad has another courtyard with pool and sun loungers in a relaxing area. There is also a terrace with sun beds and a Jacuzzi, and a large table for dining or meetings. Being there feels like we’re in another time. Outside, there’s the bustle of the medina with its souks and narrow crowded streets. However, within the Riads a magical world opens up to visitors, and you can enjoy the most complete peace and luxury. Another feature is that even though the city is very hot, inside the Riad the temperature is always mild.

In the rooms guests will also find much comfort and lots of pampering, with free wi fi, bathrobes and slippers, coffee maker with complimentary tea and coffee, a fridge, spacious closets and a beautiful bathroom decorated with Zelij tiles. The mosaics are exquisite. It’s a different style go that found in the western, these are more cozy and distinguished hotels. The door for example is actually a large window that leads out to a small balcony, and several other windows around the room make the environment quite clear and fresh. The Riad is also characterized by attention to small details, such as the flowers that are left daily in the comfortable king size bed. The hotel staff also deserves to be praised. Impressive dedication and efficiency of all employees. We can count on them for everything, from booking tours in Marrakech and nearby cities as well as accompanying us to the taxi rank. In addition, the great advantage of the Angsana hotels is the fact that they provide a cell phone to each guest during their stay. You can use the device at any time even outside.

And what about the delicious breakfast with traditional Moroccan orange juice always fresh?! The mornings at Si Said always started with various breads, jams with pieces of fruit, yogurt, cereals, a selection of hot dishes to choose from, such as omelette or poached egg. I also made a dinner reservation at the Si Said restaurant , open to the public. Excelente choice, with traditional dishes from Morocco and international cuisine. For starter, a salad with white cheese and tomatoes. As main dishes, the traditional tajine, and a Thai dish of green chicken curry with jasmine rice. The restaurant also offers Moroccan wine, it was a good opportunity to get to know and enjoy a glass of rosé wine.

The riads also features the fantastic Angsana Spa, located in the Riad Tiwaline, also in the Medina. Such a relaxing atmosphere! Upon the client’s arrival it is offered an intense cup of tea, and a wide menu of treatments is presented. I could not miss the famous hammam which is the traditional Turkish bath. The environments are beautiful and the atmosphere is calm. After the invigorating exfoliation of the hammam, the massage made by a Thai masseuse started. Throughout the treatment we can take advantage of the room with suite. In the end, we are offered another cup of tea and a light fruit plate. This Spa is strongly recommend to all who visit Marrakech, it is a refreshing break in the day after a tour around the Medina.

This hotel chain belongs to the same group as the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts. In 2014, they completed 20 years of experience, specially in Asia where their hotels are strongly present. So, even before checking in at Si Said, I was sure that the entire structure and services would provide a luxurious, exclusive stay in Marrakech.
